Shale gas extraction by hydraulic fracturing (fracking)
a cost-benefit analysis for appropriate regulatory treatment

In different territories of Spain explorations have been carried out, in order to discover shale gas fields, it is to say, that is obtained from rocks, apart from conventional sources like oil or natural gas, that are extracted from soil. The difficult for getting this kind of gas is based on the technique that needs to be used: hydraulic fracturing. It consists in drilling the rock by means of the injection of water mixed with other chemical substances in a great pressure. This system produces a great amount of impacts that affect to environmental elements and puts at risk people’s health as well, because of the filtration of chemical substances into wells of subsoil or aquifers. This work manages to describe the different effects that cause the activity, and analyze other factors like the use of renewal energies. Taking into account all that data, it seems necessary to pass an adequate regulation.
