The management of specific waste. Bio-wastes, used oils and construction waste (arts. 28 to 30)

Spanish Law 7/2022, of April 8, on waste and contaminated soils for a circular economy

Abstract

Waste management is an essential part of achieving the objectives of the circular economy, so if prevention fails, waste management must be carried out in the most appropriate way possible. In the case of specific waste, «Ley 7/2022, de 8 de abril, de residuos y suelos contaminados para una economía circular», establishes the basis for the regulation of bio-waste, waste oils and construction and demolition waste. In the case of bio-waste, specific measures will need to be taken to enable separation and recycling through biological treatment, or even treatment at source through home or community composting. As regards waste oils, their status as hazardous waste will have to be taken into account in order to ensure appropriate management. Finally, with regard to construction and demolition waste, it is essential to highlight that its classification into different fractions will be mandatory as of July 2022, preferably at the place of generation, and that demolition works will have to be carried out selectively as of January 2024.
