Legal framework for the protection of natural heritage in Brazil

This article proposes to present in a brief and panoramic way the protection of the natural patrimony in Brazil. This category translates into a broad concept, capable of encompassing different legal institutes such as «tombamento», Conservation Units, Legal Reserve Areas and Permanent Preservation Areas. In addition to the description of the mentioned instruments and institutes, it was sought to bring data related to the Brazilian territorial extension currently protected.
