Sustainable city, architectural rehabilitation, and urban regeneration

Abstract

At present, the real problem facing the rehabilitation and urban regeneration, is not in the historic centers, in the traditional city or in the continuous extensions of medium and high density, but the thousands and thousands of hectares of low density, urbanized in a fragmented form and that depend for their survival on the horizontal transport of people, goods, energy and food. At mid-eighties of last century, the consumption exceeded the biocapacity of the planet, and the issues related to energy and pollution become priority. Since then they have significantly impacted on the way we understand the planning and management of our territories.
